Filippone Organic Sicilian Dry Chili in stems: intense aroma cultivated according to tradition in the Madonie mountains at 1000 meters above sea level. Harvested by hand and packaged using artisanal methods which offer the quality and preservation of the aroma over time.
Capsicum, commonly known as chili pepper, belongs to the Solanaceae family and is native to the Americas. While perennial in its original habitat, it is often cultivated as an annual worldwide. This small shrub produces fruits—peppers—ranging in color from yellow and green to orange and red, named for their pepper-like taste. The Latin name Capsicum likely derives from "capsa," meaning box, referencing the fruit’s seed-containing berry shape, or from the Greek "kapto," meaning "to bite," alluding to its spicy heat. Archaeological evidence shows chili peppers were cultivated in Mexico as early as 5500 B.C. Introduced to Europe by Columbus in 1493, they quickly adapted to southern Europe, Africa, and Asia. Harvested in summer and autumn, fresh chilies retain optimal flavor and properties but can also be preserved dried, powdered, or in oil.
